July 2026 Fishing Report — Punta Gorda & Charlotte Harbor, FL

July 16, 2026

Charlotte Harbor is holding a little bit of everything right now, from scattered tarpon along the beaches to some solid trout action out in the deeper grass flats. If variety is what you’re after, this is a great stretch to get out on the water with Capt. Glenn Sharp.

Tarpon

Tarpon have been spread out across the harbor and along the beaches out front, out to about a mile. Instead of big schools, the pattern right now is smaller groups, usually three to five fish at a time.

Threadfins and crabs have been the top baits producing bites. There are also big schools of threadfin herring holding in the harbor and along the east wall, which is a big part of why there’s so much activity in that stretch.

Redfish & Snook

Redfish have been scattered through Turtle Bay and Bull Bay, with a few more showing up on the south end of the west wall near the mangroves. Some small snook have been mixed in with them in that same area.

The bigger snook bite has been happening at Captiva Pass and Gasparilla Pass, where pinfish have been the bait of choice. Early mornings are also producing snook along the beaches from Sanibel north to Gasparilla Pass.

After dark, the PGI canals have plenty of action under the lights, with small tarpon and snook both showing up. Live shrimp has been the best bait for that bite.

Sharks

Small sharks are scattered throughout the harbor right now, which is typical for this stretch of the season as they follow the bait around.

Trout

Trout fishing has been solid out on the deeper grass flats, in about four to six feet of water. Gasparilla Sound has been the standout spot for this bite.

The bigger trout have been hitting Yo-Zuri 3D Inshore lures, and shrimp has been working well too.
