What’s Biting Right Now
The bite has been a mixed bag lately, with a little something biting in just about every part of Charlotte Harbor.
Small tarpon have been showing up in the bigger basins and canals, redfish are scattered but findable, and shark action on the flats has been steady.
Snook
Snook fishing has been a little slow through this stretch.
The good news is a round of cooler weather should help kick that bite back into gear soon.
Redfish
Redfish action has been on the slower side too, but the fish are out there for anyone willing to cover ground.
Windblown shorelines have been the ticket, with cut ladyfish getting the most bites. The west side of the harbor has been producing better than the east.
A few fish have also been showing up on the flats early in the morning on the outgoing tide.
Worth noting, the reds are getting close to their spawn and should start grouping up in bigger numbers soon.
Tarpon
Small tarpon have been biting in the bigger basins and canals around the harbor.
Small live shrimp on 20 pound leader has been the winning combination to get them to eat.
Speckled Trout
Trout fishing has been decent, with a lot of scattered fish holding on the deeper flats.
Small pinfish around Devilfish Key have been easy to catch for bait, and the bigger trout have been eating them well fished under a popping cork.
Sharks
Shark action has been strong across the flats, in all sizes.
They’ve been biting on everything from shrimp to ladyfish chunks while targeting snook and redfish, so don’t be surprised if one shows up uninvited.

Between tarpon in the canals, reds getting ready to group up for the spawn, and sharks patrolling the flats, there’s plenty to chase around Punta Gorda right now.
