Snook, Snapper, Trout & Redfish Active Around Charlotte Harbor

Fishing around Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor has been producing some solid inshore action lately, with multiple species showing up in good numbers across the area.

One of the most consistent bites right now has been mangrove snapper. These fish have been holding in deeper holes near structure, especially around docks and mangrove shorelines. Anglers targeting these areas with live shrimp have been seeing the best success, as the shrimp naturally drift down into the deeper pockets where snapper like to stage.

Snook

Sheepshead are also providing steady action on the inshore reefs, dock pilings, and oyster bars. They’ve been feeding aggressively on crabs and live shrimp, making those baits the top choice when targeting them around hard structure.

The snook bite has started to improve over the last few days as the water temperatures slowly warm up. This warming trend has triggered better feeding activity, especially around mangrove edges and deeper ambush points. Anglers have been catching snook using live shrimp or cut pinfish fished along the bottom, particularly during moving water.

Mangrove Snapper

Over in Turtle Bay and the surrounding outside bars and grass flats, there are plenty of sea trout scattered in 4 to 5 feet of water. These fish are spread out but actively feeding, making it a great opportunity for anglers covering water across the flats.

Redfish are also showing up along the edges of the mangroves, where slightly warmer water has been the key to finding them. Fishing live shrimp tight to the mangrove lines has been producing the best results for anglers targeting reds.

Jack Crevalle

Another exciting addition to the inshore bite has been jack crevalle, which are providing strong fights and fast action when schools move through the area.

Overall, the inshore fishing around Punta Gorda continues to improve as conditions stabilize and the water warms. With snapper, trout, redfish, snook, sheepshead, and jacks all in the mix, anglers heading out on the water are finding plenty of opportunities for a productive day.

If you’re looking to experience the action firsthand, now is a great time to get on the water and explore the productive inshore waters of Charlotte Harbor and the surrounding flats.
