Charlotte Harbor & Boca Grande Fishing Update
Fishing around Punta Gorda, Charlotte Harbor, and Boca Grande has been producing some solid action lately, with a good mix of inshore species keeping rods bent.
Redfish, Snook, Pompano & Sea Trout Action
We’ve been seeing consistent bites from redfish, snook, pompano, and sea trout across the area. The standout lately has been the larger sea trout, which are holding in shallow water near structure. If you’re targeting trout, focusing on these shallower zones around grass and structure has been key.
Redfish have been a bit more dialed into deeper holes along the mangroves, and they’ve been responding best to live shrimp. Working those pockets thoroughly has been producing some quality fish.
Bait Movement & What It Means
There’s been a noticeable increase in baitfish showing up along the beaches, with some also starting to move back into Charlotte Harbor. This is a strong sign of what’s ahead.
As this bait continues pushing further into the harbor over the next few weeks, we expect the bite to ramp up even more, especially for predatory species following those schools.
Spanish Mackerel Showing Up
Spanish mackerel have already started staging around these bait schools. While the numbers are still building, this is an early indicator of a stronger mackerel bite coming soon as bait continues to move inshore.
Bonus Catches: Spinner Sharks
We’ve also had a few smaller spinner sharks mixed in, caught on shrimp. Not the primary target, but definitely adds a little extra excitement to the day when they show up.

With bait continuing to move into the harbor, conditions are lining up for an even better bite ahead. Expect:
- Increased Spanish mackerel activity
- More aggressive feeding patterns from redfish and snook
